Ancient Calendar & Pagan Holidays: August 13th: New Runic Half Month, Hecate, Horus & Seth, And Rome Sacrifice

Lots going on in our Ancient Calendar today. Starting with some present day stuff….

A new Runic Half Month called “As” begins.  (pronounce this “aa”, as in “aah”.  Divine Breath, perhaps of the Gods, As stands for stability and order. This is the divine breath of life and of creation.

Look for signs this month from your Ancestors or of your God/Goddess/Deity. This is a time to gain Ancient Wisdom. If your world or a situation has been in chaos, this is a great time to bring it to order. Plant your feet firmly on the ground and prepare for some much needed stability.

Again, this is a time to witness the power of the Gods at taking shape in the world.

Long ago, on the isle of Aegina, the Greeks had a festival for Hecate. Since Hecate is a Goddess of Night, it makes sense that her celebration started at Dusk. There is a world of wonder surrounding Hecate and I encourage every single one of you to seek it out.

I wrote a book some years ago called, Willow’s Web, and I tell you now, I nearly became lost in all of the lore and symbolic wonder surrounding Hecate, who, without warning, played a huge part in that story.  Please know, that wasn’t a book plug. I’m just trying to make it very clear that, Hecate, if you haven’t already, is a must research when and if you’re ever out there learning about new Goddesses.

Moving on to Rome, where all would be offering sacrifices in the Aventine chapel for Vertumnus. He happens to be a God of the changing of seasons—of the ripe fruit. This makes sense, since, in Old World Calendars and New, we are swimming around the edges of Lammas.

We have all heard of the stories of Egyptian Set, who murdered his brother Osiris for control of Egypt. We have also heard of Osiris’s son, Horus, who found Set in a whirlwind of great battles trying to prevent his father’s murderer from claiming that which should never be his. Well, in Ancient Egyptian Calendar, this is the day the Great Battle took place or a day that they made note of it.
