Halloween is that one night of the year when you can be anything you want to be, either a sexy pirate, scary zombie or a whoopie cushion. As Buffy said, “It’s come as you aren’t night.” And now you can be Anna Rexia.
The Anna Rexia costume is a tight, short, black bodysuit style dress with a glittery, silk-screened skeleton print, bone headband, heart name tag, measuring tape ribbon belt and a matching measuring tape choker.
My first thought was why would anyone want to wear an anorexia costume that really isn’t that attractive? I guess this costume is for people with dark humor and judging by its popularity, there seems to be a lot of people with dark humor. Okay, I get that. I’m all for expressing yourself, but is making fun of a serious eating disorder that is a mental illness in good taste? Is it sexy?
There have been other controversial costumes in the past. I know that a lot of Wiccans are bothered by the ugly witch costumes that are popular each year. I’m not too pleased with costumes that allude that all witches are ugly, but I just brush it off as silly misconceptions by people that have no clue.
It seems no matter what you do, someone will get offended. I’m sure there’s another costume being designed that will upset a group of people this Halloween.
