Pagan Holidays for December 31, 2009

Guess what folks…today is the last day of 2009. It’s time to bring on the new year and say good-bye to the old one.

That also means that Pagan-wise we have a busy night in all types of Cultures. For instance, we all know it’s New Years Eve our time. But it’s also Hogmanay—a Scottish holiday. At the last hour of the old year, you should open up your door to drive out all of the old spirits of the past year. As much noise as you can make should be made to drive them out and away.

Now while the Scots are doing that, the Welsh are preparing for Cwn Annwn —which means the dogs of the Underworld will be prowling the night skies supposedly looking for victims. But don;t worry if you are trudging it up in Welsh land this night…all you have to do is scream, shout, blow some horns, or beat on shields or pots to scare them away.

If you do get spooked and run in the direction of Egypt, then be prepared for a celebration in honor of Sekhmet this night. This is her lucky day!

And let’s not forget about Hecate or Hekate. I mean, we can’t have black dogs running amuck without her, right? The Greeks will be honoring her this day and night for how would we start a New Year without her?

Remember  —

Thursday belongs to the deity Thunor, also known as Thor, who is the God of Agriculture and Thunder.

Thursday are Great for Dealing with Matters or Magical Spells & Rituals Concerning:

Passions & Desires—what do you want in your life?

Political Power—you can influence this for yourself or for what you desire on this day.

Speculating & Gambling—someone have a problem? Do you need help or luck?

Legal Matters, Treaties, Oaths—today is a great day to deal with these.

Harvests—perhaps you buy your food and this doesn’t;t matter to you but today you could make sure someone else has a good harvest. Maybe you could see to it that they have a meal for Thanksgiving?

~

Thursday represents The Planet Jupiter and The Element of Fire

The moon phase:

FULL MOON—now how awesome is that?

Prime time for rituals for prophecy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healing for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams.
