Is global warming real? Or is it a fallacy? I’m no scientist so I can’t go into detail either for or against. However the weather sure has been strange lately. Recently the world has seen changing weather patterns that have caused major problems for the human race. Here in Australia we have had record-breaking heat waves over a continuous unprecedented timeframe. We have had drought, water shortages and huge unheard of dust storms.
Last week we had massively hot temperatures and then a phenomenal electrical storm. Personally, I love electrical storms. The pagan in me is in awe of the awesome power such a storm wields. The magic of it, the intensity, it really gives you pause. The storm also caused a blackout and we had no power for about 14 hours. Its not really a long time, not in the scheme of things. But it did get me thinking.
In todays age we take electricity for granted and the huge number of things in our world that run off electricity. I loved the quietness of the blackout. A candlelit bath, reading a good book by candle light all through the night. I felt like I got back to nature that night.
What I didn’t like was the little conveniences such as making myself a hot cuppa, the fridge working, checking my emails. The world runs on electricity. Just imagine what would happen if major electrical grids went out for an extended period of time. You couldn’t fill up your car with petrol, banking systems would be down, ATMs, Internet, communication lines. It would be catastrophic.
We did once live without electricity, it would have been a simpler time, but I can’t say it would have been better for us socially or economically. But would it have been better for the earth? To make electricity fossil fuels are still the main contender in what is a huge debate over where our electricity for the future will come from. We all know what fossil fuel does to the land and our Mother Earth. We also have a pretty good idea what the alternatives such as nuclear power does to the world.
So we are in a conundrum, we need electricity, but how do we fuel it without ruining the world? It is the question the world is pondering as we head toward an unknown future. Here in Australia there is much debate over carbon emissions schemes and what we can do individually to lesson our carbon foot print. Some say that we are such a relatively small country that any scheme we endorse will be insignificant and cost us too much money. But if everyone makes a small contribution then surely it must add up. And what will the cost be to us if we dont start taking this seriously.
There are some that question the existence of global warming, and yes it is good to have a debate. But what is the cost if they are wrong? Surely it is better to consider differing possibilities to our energy crisis. Yes environmentally friendly gestures such as solar power, wind power ect are a step in the right direction. I dont know the answers, but I do know that I now dont take electricity for granted.
I also know that as pagans, spiritual people and people who care about the environment, this is a topic close to our hearts. Nature surely has a spirit and you can reconnect with it by turning off the electrical appliances that tend to bombard our daily lives. Turn off the computer, tv, games, even the lights. Light a candle and go out into the fresh air and breathe it in. Reconnect with nature and say thank you, for ultimately it is nature that gives us the electricity. But nature also gives us power simply by accepting it into our hearts and re-energize ourselves. And nature and the weather is changing, so lets give back to nature and harness that pagan power
Cheers

I thought Global Warming was real after watching a bunch of documentaries on it. I mean we have ‘seasons’ here in Virginia and I haven’t seen a normal season in years. A few years back it felt like summer and spring until JANUARY. We haven’t seen a decent snow since I was a kid. Tons of reasons I thought, something was off. However, then I started seeing other documentaries…other experts show evidence that this whole weather craziness stuff was NOT the signs of Global Warming. It’s a cycle that happens to earth every so many thousands of years or something like that? In fact, the last time it happened, journals and historical documentation claimed that it was the richest season for crops and so forth.
So, honestly I don’t know if Global Warming is real or not. It could be the biggest hoax ever pulled off by our governments…I mean I can understand why the little person can’t get more energy wise and efficient but if this is such a serious thing then why isn’t the White House Solar or why aren’t the so called experts getting it together? When Al Gore made his little movie about how we are destroying the planet, his electric bill for that year alone was 20 thousand dollars.
But for better forms of energy—there are TONS of ways to get better forms of energy that will not destroy the planet. A lake here in Virginia called Lake Anna–very popular place—it makes electricity. There is a hot side and a cold side. One side of the lake stays nice and warm all year long (also the most expensive side to live on). There is wind energy…thats just to name a few. The only reason more focus isn’t paid to the alternative and more safer ways is because those big business crooks—the ones that have their fortunes from gas, oil, coal and so forth…are holding the hell on for all their might. And the politicians who have their hands in their pockets…holding on with all their might.
Clean Coal—NO SUCH THING. If you want to know the damage of coal…go to the homes that live around the coal factories such as the ones in West Virginia. The factories spew out what the people call ‘pepper’. This stuff gets inside their homes, poisons the land, they breath it in. I watched a documentary on the so called Clean Coal…these people had their homes before the factories and now the factories are killing them. They cant open their windows but still, the coal pepper gets in. And I am not talking about a little shake of pepper. I am talking about clog up the filters, turn the cars black, wipe the sludge off the window seals Pepper. The farm land is ruined…everything has gone to hell. And they have reserves bult..bottomless reserves filled with a thick gooey sludge that they say is trapped by the mountains—wrong. There is recordings of this stuff breaking lose and taking out towns…and if you think an oil spill in the ocean is bad–the clean up on this crap is damn near impossible.
Politicians are screaming clean coal…but their solutions to make this happen is not scientifically correct. its another hoax to make it look like they are doing something but its a lie. Their theory is to blow the pepper and sludge and stuff back into the earth. Well go stick a straw into the dirt outside and blow—the straw will eventually block up and the ‘stuff’ willl have nowhere to go. Thats just one problem…there are tons of others, believe me.
I am for cleaner energy but I am afraid our politicians are not gonna bring us any unless they are forced and I am pretty much passed knowing how to force them. They no longer listen to us…they just listen to the people with the big bucks.
Hi C.H.,
You bring up some really great points. I too dont know if Global Warming is a condition brought about by human intervention or a natural occurance. One thing is for sure and that’s, the weather certainly is changing.
I agree with you about coal and fossil fuels. It is the money in these organisations that keeps them running and the lack of interest in other types of energy.
Weather you believe in global warming or not, fossil fuels still have a determintal affect on both the earth and people.
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my post,
Cheers

Weird but there was a documentary on last night focused on other resources for energy other than fossil fuels…but as they said, getting Federal attention to focus on it, has yet to happen.
One of the ideas they had though was to put a solar panel satellite in space to use the 24 hour energy of the sun. These wouldn’t harm the sun at all but could supply the whole earth if done correctly.
They talked about the Hybrid cars and I have to say, I’d love to have one but until they make them more affordable, I doubt we will see a rush of people running out to get them. They also talked about fuels that Willie Nelson has been behind that uses waste products, vegetable oil and various farm products to make.
And yeah, whether Global Warming is a hoax (for today) or its a real problem in the future, we need to get it together before its a problem that can’t be fixed.
great article Connie as usual!
P.s
A friend of mine just sent me this, this morning…strange because then I seen this post lol.
